CBC Handwritten PdF Notes File
Introduction:
A Complete Blood Count (CBC) is a fundamental blood test that evaluates the various components of blood, including red blood cells, white blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelets. This test provides crucial information about the production and functioning of blood cells, helping diagnose and monitor various blood-related disorders.
Components of CBC:
1. Red Blood Cell (RBC) Count:
- Measures the number of red blood cells in a microliter (μL) of blood
- Normal range: 4.3-5.7 million/μL
- Helps diagnose: Anemia, blood loss, bone marrow disorders, and RBC production issues
2. Hemoglobin (Hb):
- Measures the amount of hemoglobin in grams per deciliter (g/dL) of blood
- Normal range: 13.5-17.5 g/dL
- Helps diagnose: Anemia, blood disorders, oxygen-carrying capacity, and hemoglobinopathies
3. Hematocrit (Hct):
- Measures the percentage of red blood cells in the blood
- Normal range: 40-54%
- Helps diagnose: Anemia, blood disorders, dehydration, and RBC production issues
4. White Blood Cell (WBC) Count:
- Measures the number of white blood cells in a microliter (μL) of blood
- Normal range: 4,500-11,000/μL
- Helps diagnose: Infection, inflammation, immune system disorders, and WBC production issues
5. Platelet Count:
- Measures the number of platelets in a microliter (μL) of blood
- Normal range: 150,000-450,000/μL
- Helps diagnose: Bleeding disorders, thrombocytopenia, bone marrow disorders, and platelet production issues
Additional Components (may not be included in all CBC panels):
1. Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV):
- Measures the average size of red blood cells
- Helps diagnose: Anemia, RBC production issues, and blood disorders
2. Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin (MCH):
- Measures the average amount of hemoglobin in red blood cells
- Helps diagnose: Anemia, hemoglobinopathies, and RBC production issues
