A stroke is a medical condition that occurs when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted or reduced, depriving the brain of oxygen and nutrients. This can lead to brain cell death and permanent damage, resulting in a range of symptoms and disabilities. There are several types of stroke, each with distinct causes and effects.

Types of Stroke:

1. Ischemic Stroke: This is the most common type of stroke, accounting for about 87% of all strokes. It occurs when a blood vessel in the brain becomes blocked, reducing blood flow and oxygen supply to the brain.

2. Hemorrhagic Stroke: This type of stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures, causing bleeding and damage to surrounding brain tissue.

3. Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA): Also known as a "mini-stroke," TIA is a temporary interruption of blood flow to the brain, lasting for a short period of time (usually less than 24 hours).

4. Cryptogenic Stroke: This type of stroke occurs when the cause is unknown, despite extensive testing and evaluation.

5. Embolic Stroke: This type of stroke occurs when a blood clot or other debris travels through the bloodstream and lodges in a blood vessel in the brain.

6. Thrombotic Stroke: This type of stroke occurs when a blood clot forms in a blood vessel in the brain.

7. Lacunar Stroke: This type of stroke occurs when a small blood vessel in the brain becomes blocked.

8. Pontine Stroke: This type of stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the pons area of the brainstem becomes blocked.

Causes of Stroke:

1. High Blood Pressure

2. Atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in blood vessels)

3. Blood Clots

4. Atrial Fibrillation (irregular heartbeat)

5. Diabetes

6. High Cholesterol

7. Smoking

8. Obesity

9. Physical Inactivity

10. Family History

Symptoms of Stroke:

1. Sudden weakness or numbness in the face, arm, or leg

2. Sudden confusion or trouble speaking

3. Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes

4. Sudden severe headache

5. Sudden difficulty walking
